Dental implants provide an effective way to replace one (or several) permanent teeth. They allow you to smile confidently and make biting and chewing much easier. At Momentum Dental Care, family dentist Tamesha Morris, DDS, and the team offer Hiossen® dental implants. These advanced devices can transform your oral health and quality of life. Dental implants are titanium posts placed beneath your gum line during a pain-free outpatient procedure. They replace your natural tooth roots and provide a foundation for oral restorations like crowns, bridges, or implant-retained dentures.
Following placement, the implants bond to your jaw through a process called osseointegration. That prevents them from moving out of place, improving your ability to bite, chew, and speak.
Dental implants provide a variety of advantages, including:
Dental implants also improve your oral health. If you’re missing one or several permanent teeth, you’re more likely to experience gum recession, loose teeth, and bone loss. Implants significantly lower the risk of these and other issues.
Getting dental implants takes a series of three or more appointments spaced several months apart.
At your initial consultation, the Momentum Dental Care team conducts an oral exam, asks about your goals for treatment, and orders a series of oral X-rays. They use the X-rays to assess your jawbone and to determine if your gums are healthy enough to receive implants. If everything looks good, they administer a local anesthetic and place the implants beneath your gum line.
Following implant placement, the team provides you with care instructions and sends you home to recover. When the implants fuse to your jaw, you return to the office. The team takes digital impressions of your mouth with the iTero® intraoral scanner and sends them to a dental laboratory.
The dental laboratory uses your scans to create a custom crown, fixed bridge, or set of implant-retained dentures. When your restorations are complete, you return to Momentum Dental Care. The team lines up your custom restoration with the implants and bonds it in place.
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, dental implants often last for decades. The team at Momentum Dental Care recommends treating them like your natural teeth. Brush and floss regularly and visit the office at least two times a year for an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning.
To prevent damage to your implants, the team recommends wearing a mouthguard if you play sports and avoiding bad habits like nail-biting or chewing on pen caps.
