Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment. It uses a series of clear, nearly invisible oral appliances to gradually straighten your teeth and jaw, improving your oral health and the appearance of your smile.
Invisalign doesn’t use wires or brackets like traditional braces. Each aligner is made of SmartTrack®, an FDA-approved thermoplastic. SmartTrack is incredibly durable and free of all toxins, making it safe for pregnant women and people with allergies.
The team at Momentum Dental Care uses Invisalign to correct mild and moderate orthodontic issues, including:
You might also benefit from Invisalign if your teeth overlap one another.
Invisalign treatment begins with a comprehensive oral exam and a discussion of your goals. Afterward, the team takes oral X-rays to assess the position of your teeth and jaw. Next, they use the iTero® intraoral scanner to take digital impressions of your mouth. Then, they upload your impressions to a computer-aided design program.
The team uses the program to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan that maps out the movements of your teeth and jaw. After finalizing and approving a plan, they send your impressions to a dental laboratory that creates your first set of Invisalign aligners.
About a week later, you return to Momentum Dental Care. You try on the first set of aligners and the team makes adjustments as necessary. Throughout treatment, you wear the aligners for 20-22 hours each day, only removing them to eat or brush your teeth.
Every two or three weeks, you visit Momentum Dental Care and change into a new set of aligners. Each new set moves your teeth and jaw closer to the optimal position.
Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign typically takes 6-12* months, but it can take up to 18 months or longer. To speed up the process, wear your aligners as prescribed and attend each of your routine checkups at Momentum Dental Care.
To keep your Invisalign aligners in optimal condition, it’s important to regularly clean them. The team at Momentum Dental Care recommends rinsing them off several times a day in tap water and gently brushing them at night before going to bed. To remove stains or discoloration, ask the team about the Invisalign cleaning system.
